Biopolix
Industrial-scale injection-moulded biocomposite for single-use spoons

Summary

Scalability demonstrated! Our injection-moulding biocomposite is now being produced at industrial scale and used to make single-use spoons.

We are delighted to share a major milestone for Biopolix: we have demonstrated the industrial scalability of our biocomposite for injection-moulding processes, marking another step towards replacing conventional plastics with genuinely biodegradable materials.

This progress was only possible thanks to the combined efforts and technical expertise of the many teams that have worked alongside us over the years through projects and service collaborations.

The work began with an EMBRAPII – Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Company project at the Senai Mario Amato Unit, before it became Senai Distrito, while still under the technical coordination of Dr Augusto Morita. Along the way, we made improvements supported by Sebrae for Startups' Catalisa Programme. Following further service collaborations, we were able to bring our results together with the UpLab | SENAI São Paulo project.

Through this journey, we improved the biocomposite's processing for industrial-scale production, progressing from laboratory-scale manufacturing to a 20-cavity mould, thereby validating its industrial application.

Thank you to Dr Irina Marinho Factori, who took over the EMBRAPII project and coordinated the partnership through its final advances.

We would also like to express our special thanks to the technical teams, managers, industrial partners and institutions that believed in the potential of our bioresins and contributed their time, facilities and expertise to help us reach this point.

We remain committed to Biopolix's mission: bringing biodegradable biomaterials into real-world applications, reducing environmental impact and creating solutions that do not depend on recycling.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey: Senai São Paulo, Sebrae-SP, Sebrae for Startups, UpLab | SENAI São Paulo, Supera Park, Gustavo Spina Gaudencio de Almeida, Jorge, Patricia Pretel, Durval, Alex, Allef Gabriel, Maria Eduarda Araújo Ribeiro, Maria Eloisa Sousa Santos, Mario, and so many others who could not all fit into one photograph.
